Listowel Wingham Hospitals Alliance

The Listowel Wingham Hospitals Alliance was formed on July 1, 2003 as a partnership between Listowel Memorial Hospital and Wingham and District Hospital. We share a common management structure with one CEO. We have a commitment to partnership and common Mission, Vision and Values. The Alliance Board consists of both hospital boards combined. We look for opportunities to create and share services and programs across our two communities and to look for creative ways to link to our community partners.

The Listowel Memorial Hospital has been providing acute care and complex continuing care services to the residents of North Perth and the hospital’s catchment area since 1919. Our fully accredited hospital offers a wide range of primary and secondary services including 24-hour emergency services. In-patient and out-patient care, specialist clinics and supportive diagnostic services. The Hospital has an active staff of 10 Family Practitioners as well as several consultant staff.

Hospital services include:

  • Emergency, Operating Rooms, Diagnostic and Ambulatory Care Units (December 2007)
  • Maternal/Newborn Unit
  • Diabetes/Nutrition Counseling
  • Speech-Language
  • Physiotherapy
  • Breast Health Centre
  • Fully integrated electronic patient health record with Family Health Team and Physician offices.

The Wingham and District Hospital is a modern, progressive acute care facility providing medical, surgical, obstetrical, paediatric, chronic and rehabilitation bed and other services, including 24-hour emergency coverage.

Hospital services include:

  • Emergency department with 24-hour on-call coverage
  • Rehabilitation department including physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech language pathology
  • Multiple outpatient specialist clinics held on a regular basis to provide local service
  • Affiliation with London Regional Cancer Centre enabling chemotherapy treatment to be provided locally
  • Many community health related education programs
  • Fully integrated electronic patient health record with Family Health Team and Physician offices.


Position:  Pharmacy Technician

Region:  Huron and Perth

Description:  The Registered Pharmacy Technician will follow established policies and procedures in entering, dispensing and compounding prescription medicine to inpatients (and some outpatients), to maintain drug pharmacy and automated dispensing unit inventory, narcotic and controlled inventory according to the Narcotic & Controlled Act, and per Ontario College of Pharmacy dispensed accurately (double checked) to provide a safe and effective medication service to our patients.

This is a casual position that is anticipated to begin immediately. The successful candidate will be available Monday to Friday from 7am-3pm or 7:30am-3:30pm, and will have the ability to work weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities: 

  • To sort, prioritize and technically process medications orders and requests (i.e. patientspecific dispensing, pass medications, TPN) into the computerized patient profiles. Includes product select changes, formulary auto-substitutions, review of documented medication histories.
  • To participate in the collection of the Best Possible Medication History (BPMH) for admitted patients, relaying of corrections to providers of incorrect input on the BPMH.
  • To process all chemotherapy medication orders into the computerized patient profile using OPIS, and London Regional Cancer Clinic resources.
  • To maintain or check all equipment related to chemotherapy/ IV admixture preparation (i.e. daily cleaning of Laminar Flow Hoods, Biohazard Safety Cabinet, fumehood, eye wash and shower stations.)
  • To perform accuracy checks during chemotherapy preparations (i.e. product checks, volume checks) and final release of product to Chemotherapy unit based on certification process.
  • To dispense all medication orders (first dose or patient-specific refills), pass medications, outpatient medications, chemotherapy , Methadone, IV admixtures and high alert medications according to Pharmacy procedure into appropriate delivery system.

Qualifications:

  • Pharmacy Technician diploma, plus certification required
  • Registration with the Ontario College of Pharmacy
  • 3 to 6 months’ related experience required
  • Moderate physical effort 
  • High degree of mental effort and analysis


Salary:   $32.88 - $37.92 per hour

Terms of Employment:  Casual
