HPHA Offers Free, Walk-In Counselling at Stratford General Hospital

The Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance (HPHA) is teaming up with area health and addiction organizations to provide free, walk-in counselling appointments to residents of Huron and Perth counties.

The goal is to provide timely access to mental health support and reduce barriers to care for individuals seeking counselling, allowing them to get the right care at the right time.

Sessions will take place at the Special Services Unit building at the Stratford General Hospital site every Monday from 1-4 p.m., starting the week of September 14.

Counselling appointments are available to individuals 16 years of age and older and no appointment is needed. People can also return for additional appointments as needed.

“No one should have to wait to be heard. Through the collective efforts of mental health and addiction organizations across Huron and Perth, the Single Session Counselling Program offers immediate access to compassionate support, helping people take the first step toward wellness when it matters most," said Rodney Phillips, HPHA’s Manager of Outpatient Mental Health.

HPHA is part of the Huron Perth Addiction and Mental Health Alliance, which organized this initiative. The group is comprised of the Canadian Mental Health Association Huron Perth, Canadian Mental Health Association Thames Valley, Huron Health System and Medavie Mobile Mental Health.

As part of this enterprise, counselling appointments are also scheduled on different dates in Listowel, Wingham, Goderich, Clinton and Exeter.

“This is an exciting opportunity to work collaboratively with our community partners to break down access barriers,” said Phillips. “By offering a no-wait pathway to counselling, we are helping create a more responsive and accessible mental health system for residents.”

Huron Perth residents who would like more information about the program should contact the Huron Perth Helpline and Crisis Response Team at 1-888-829-7484.
