Thirty Years of London Cares Curb Hunger Food Campaign

This year marks 30 years of partnership between the City of London and the London Food Bank as they once again come together to launch the London Cares Curb Hunger food campaign.

The food campaign will run from June 1 to June 14 and accepts fresh food, non-perishable food, and financial donations.

“For 30 years, the London Cares Curb Hunger campaign has proven what makes our community so special: when Londoners see neighbours in need, they step up,” says Mayor Josh Morgan. “Our partnership with the London Food Bank has helped countless families, and that’s only possible through the generosity of people across our city. If you’re able, I encourage everyone to take part this year, help support neighbours who are facing food insecurity, and make this year our greatest contribution yet.”

Every dollar donated to the London Food bank provides two nutritious meals for Londoners facing food insecurity. That means a five-dollar donation can help provide ten meals to individuals and families in our community.

“We are encouraging Londoners to show support for the London Food Bank in any way that works for them,” says Shawna Chambers, Director, Climate Change, Environment & Waste Management, City of London. “That could be buying a couple extra items at the grocery store to leave in the donation bin on your way out, or planting an extra row in your garden for the food bank.”

"Summer is a time for gardens, gatherings, and community. It's also a time when many families face increased food insecurity,” says Jane Roy, Co-Executive Director of the London Food Bank. “By supporting the London Cares Curb Hunger Campaign, you're helping our community share its food resources and ensuring that everyone has access to the nourishment they need."

How to get involved

Londoners can support the food campaign in a number of ways:

  • Food donations: Fresh and shelf-stable food is accepted at the Food Bank, located at 926 Leathorne St.
  • Grocery store bins: On your next trip to the grocery store, pick up a few extra items to leave in the donation bin on your way out.
  • Financial support: You can make a financial donation to the London Food Bank to support their operations and purchasing additional food.
  • Volunteer: You can volunteer at the London Food Bank.
  • Plant a Row, Grow a Row: Londoners can sign up to help Grow-a-Row for the Food Bank in their backyard or community gardens. Growing your own produce at home is a great activity for families and households, and any extra produce from your garden can be donated to the Food Bank.
  • Adopt a Plot: The London Food Bank has on-site garden beds to grow vegetables for use in client hampers. Groups are welcome to sign up to adopt a plot of these gardens to help plant, raise, and harvest vegetables. Learn more.
